Mark Fields

Mark Fields, author portrait

Mark Fields writes the books he wishes someone had handed him twenty years ago. Direct, anti-BS, smart. He is not a psychologist, not a guru, and does not sell online courses.

He has spent his career in technology — writing code, building projects, helping people and small businesses make sense of a digital world that keeps getting noisier. The throughline of his work is the same question, asked differently each time: what would actually help?

His books apply that question to different surfaces. Tetris — The Manual Life Never Gave You uses the game as a lens on life. Holograms: Living Among Projections asks what happens when we can no longer tell the real from the projected. Your Therapist Is Lying to You is opinion and satire about the therapy industry — and what actually works instead. Human Mode: A Field Manual for the Age of AI is for staying human in an AI world. Nobody Buys Software is about the one thing AI cannot replace: the sales conversation. What I Figured Out About You hands the pen to an artificial intelligence and lets it say what it has learned about us. Decide in 90 Seconds and Do Not Buy Bitcoin each take one problem and refuse to waste your time.

Why I write

The missing shelf

Because the books I needed did not exist. The honest ones were academic. The readable ones were selling something. So I write the missing shelf: short, direct books that treat you like an adult with a job and a deadline.

Every book starts from the same question: what would actually help? If a chapter doesn’t change what you do on Tuesday, it doesn’t make the cut.

I test ideas in the real world first — in companies, in code, in conversations that didn’t go well. Then I write down what survived.

What’s next

Currently working on new titles in English and Italian. Some practical. Some conceptual. All direct.
